The welcoming of children

The Center is intended to temporarily assist
orphan children, abandoned, disabled (physically,
of sight, etc.) and children who have poor parents
who cannot afford their education.

The reasons for abandoning the children are often
the death or the incapability and poverty of the
parents, but also some children are victims of
rejection or dislike because they are still perceived
abnormal or cursed by gods.

With the intent to preserve mental balance and to ensure the needs to which each child has the right, very quickly the children who are temporarily accommodated in the Center are placed with host families which CAST finds by advertisements, particularly in the parishes of Kpalimé and of Togo in general.

The parents, whose children are disabled or poor, are encouraged to keep them at home. In this case, CAST brings to the children the school stationery and other daily needs.

Also CAST does a work of awareness through the parents, especially those whose children are disabled,
so that they understand that a disabled child can have normal schooling as the children known as "normal".

According to the nature of the disability of the child, sometimes CAST proposes to the parents a special education. The children or the young people themselves understand not to lose hope and to see themselves as normal. They are conscious of their capacities and accept proposals of training and education. Too often the disability has so much destroyed them that they feel incapacitated for any form of education or vocational training.

Sponsorship

The construction of an orphanage mainly
financed by the French association La Cause,
inaugurated in February 2004, accommodates
25 children in the Center.

CAST develops for these children
a service of sponsorship to make sure
they can feed themselves, to dress and
to be educated.
50 children are currently sponsored.
